It could be said that the tuba and the euphonium have been coming to light in South America since four decades ago. It could also be said that South America already has a tuba and euphonium school.
A lot has been said and written about the tuba and euphonium outside South America: the American school (North America), the French school, the French school, the English school, and the German school but nothing about the South American school.
The South American school , in our opinion, already has a present and has a bright future ahead throughout the professionals that are working and the students that are seeking for instruction plus all the children’s and youth orchestras and band projects in Venezuela, Argentina, Uruguay, Colombia, Brazil, Chile, Perú, Ecuador, Bolivia, and Paraguay.
The goal of this presentation is to inform the audience about the development of this endeavor but also, and most importantly, to unite all the tuba and euphonium professionals and students in South America and to put aside our personal interests and work towards our common benefit. This hopefully will lead to our “1st South American Tuba and Euphonium Conference” in which all professionals and students will have the opportunity to participate and share their experiences.
It is a fact that our South American school has been influenced by all the schools mentioned above but it is also a fact that it has elements that make it unique. On the first place, it is ours and not somebody else’s and we should start to take care of it and cultivate it more. More over our traditions, our music, our cultures and social contexts, and our means to be able to make music are also unique. All these elements make our school exceptional no matter what individual influences, concepts and visions we have: it is OUR South American Tuba and Euphonium school.
With this project, leaded by Patricio Cosentino and David Lopez, we will gradually introduce South American tuba and euphonium professionals, their projects, and their experiences.
We wish for this endeavor to be the beginning of the unity and growth of our School. We are open to any suggestion and we apologize in advance for any misunderstanding that can derive from this project. We will always be available to answer any question or doubt.
