Soon we will present the South American school of tuba and euphonium and its representatives.
Patricio Cosentino (b. 1980 in Buenos Aires, Argentina) is one of the most active tuba soloists today, a member of the Enrique Crespo Brass Ensemble and Pampa Brass.
He was “Akademist” in the Dortmunder Philharmoniker, Coprincipal tuba soloist of the Orchestra of the Teatro Argentino de La Plata, solo tuba of the Salta Symphony Orchestra and tuba of the National Symphony Orchestra of Argentina. Since 2012, he teaches at
the Brass Academy Alicante.
He received his musical training at the Hochschule für Musik "Franz Liszt" in Weimar with Walter Hilgers (2003-2009). During this time he won the DAAD scholarship.
As a soloist, he can be heard with orchestras such as Orquesta Sinfonica Nacional Argentina, Orquesta Sinfonica de Campinas, Orquesta Sinfonica de Córdoba, Banda Sinfonica Nacional de Ciegos “Pascual Grisolía”, Georgia Brass Band, Banda Sinfonica de la Policía Nacional de Paris. He has given recitals and solo concerts in some of the most important festivals arround the world, such as ITEC (International Tuba Euphonium Conference), IEI Festival for Euphonium and Tuba, Curso de Verano de Brasilia, Curso Internacional de Música SESC, Festival Internacional Carlos Gomes, Curso Internacional de Musica de Jaen.
Notably, Patricio Cosentino worked together with many South American composers to develop new repertoire for euphonium and tuba. This work has produced over 80 new pieces and arrangements for euphonium and tuba from composers of Argentina, Uruguay, Brazil and Colombia.
In 2013, he recorded his debut CD with American euphonium soloist Adam Frey. With this recording, he completed one of his personal goals, being the Complete CD repertoire of new music for euphonium and tuba by Argentinian composers. As a tireless creator, his eagerness to improve everything related to the development of the euphonium and tuba prompted him to create the Encuentro Argentino de tubas y euphoniums, a collection of tuba mouthpieces made entirely in Argentina by luthier Marcelo Ludueña for the brand Boqar, and the music publisher, Absolute Brass, together with the American euphoniumist Adam Frey.
Since July 2011, Patricio has worked together with the International Tuba Euphonium Association (ITEA), as an international representative of the executive committee. Patricio Cosentino serves as an ambassador of South American music.
